Post WW2 Malnutrition program becomes Anti-obesity program

Feb.8th, 2010
A federal program that began in 1946 to remedy the shocking malnutrition among World War II recruits is being transformed into ground zero in the nation's new war against obesity. This program and a several others that feed more than 31 million children a day will be at the center of a new anti-obesity campaign that first lady Michelle Obama will roll out Tuesday.

  1. Declaring war on obesity . . . eek! I'll be a target! Good that something good can come from the war, though. It will be interesting to see how feed the malnurished can be trasformed into a way to fight obesity. Sounds a bit strange.

  2. Yeah, the articles I found didn't go into details about how they are using that original program from WWII. However I believe it is just based on basic nutritional requirements to keep a person healthy. The same would apply whether a body was malnourished or obese. It is likely the same as the FDA "recommended daily allowance" tables.
